SSI Recreational & Technical Instructor Trainer Profile - Cat Braun

Cat Braun has been active within the diving industry for many years in the Red Sea, Egypt. She has been concentrating on developing and expanding her own diving company "Tekstreme Diving" within Egypt along with her personal development within SSI as a recreational and technical Instructor Trainer and more recently as being part of the SSI Technical Advisory board.

As a direct result of previously being a multi agency recreational and technical instructor she has found that the knowledge and experience gained from the various agencies has been instrumental in her development as an instructor and now more specifically as an SSI Instructor Trainer.

Cat comments that,

"Teaching through multi agencies over the years, has given me the opportunity to teach divers a huge variety of skills with slightly different approaches and execution. This has enabled me to develop as an open minded instructor, with the ability to be able to evaluate the industry and training agency needs in an impartial manner without prejudice or bias. It is with great pleasure that I now have the opportunity to work alongside the inspiring professional team at SSI to drive their Extended Range (XR) courses forward and to open up this world of XR diving to all. Its very exciting times ahead."

Currently the number of divers worldwide who continue their diving education through to decompression courses is very low. The description of 'Deep, dark and dangerous" still all to commonly being associated with decompression diving. There are some more hostile diving environments around the world where that description does suit well and rightly so, but equally so, there are many diving environments where having the basic training of decompression techniques can open up a whole new world of diving opportunities. Cat says that,

"Right now I feel that I am in a position to try and break down some barriers between the recreational and the technical diving disciplines and to try to encourage recreational divers to see that decompression diving is not an entry into the dark world but more of a way of improving diving skills, gaining more diving knowledge and making the diver more well rounded as an individual. Of course a huge bonus is gaining access to some amazing dive sites around the world that were previously perceived as being out of bounds!"
