Manly Sea Eagles Face Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit Over Tragic Death of Keith Titmuss

The Manly Sea Eagles are facing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit from the family of former player Keith Titmuss, who died from heat exhaustion after a training session. The Daily Telegraph reports that the family is suing the club for an allegedly "inappropriate training session" that led to the young player's tragic death.

Titmuss died at the age of 20 in hospital hours after suffering a seizure following a brutal workout session in hot conditions during Manly's pre-season on November 23, 2020. A coronial inquest found that the cause of death was exertion heat stroke, with Titmuss's pre-existing heart condition not playing a role. Titmuss's mother, father, and brother have launched a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Manly for damages in the NSW Supreme Court.

The family's statement of claim, filed on December 19, alleges that the club breached its duty of care to Titmuss by failing to provide a safe work environment. The amount of damages each family member is pursuing has not been revealed in court, but the Supreme Court has jurisdiction to hear cases each worth more than $1.5 million, with no upper limit.

This lawsuit comes as the club is also being sued by former player Lloyd Perrett for $5 million, for the alleged grueling conditions Perrett was expected to train in, which left him hospitalized with severe heat stroke. Manly has not made any comment on the lawsuits at this time.
