Just days prior to this devastating event, Chloe had been prescribed antibiotics for what was believed to be a common chest infection. However, unbeknownst to everyone, she was actually grappling with a hidden health crisis—a brain aneurysm, which is essentially a weak spot in a blood vessel in the brain that can unexpectedly burst, leading to severe bleeding and often life-threatening consequences.
In the days leading up to her collapse, Chloe, who was also a mother to a four-year-old named Nancy, had been feeling unwell. She attributed her persistent cough to the chest infection and dismissed her headaches as mere issues related to her eyesight, believing that a change in glasses would resolve them. Tragically, these symptoms were indicators of a far more serious condition.
Vicki, who lives in Hereford, Herefordshire, recounted the moment she received the devastating call while caring for Nancy. "Chloe was feeling a bit poorly but we just thought it was a chest infection because she had a cough," she recalled. After taking antibiotics, Chloe’s condition seemed manageable until she suddenly stopped breathing. Vicki expressed disbelief when she received the call from Chloe's boyfriend, only to be confronted with the reality of paramedics attempting to resuscitate her daughter.
Despite their efforts, Chloe was never able to regain consciousness after being taken to the hospital. The medical team later informed Vicki that her daughter had suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm, resulting in a massive brain hemorrhage. "There was nothing they could do," Vicki said, reflecting on the harrowing experience of waiting for news at the hospital. "I met the ambulance at the hospital, and they took her straight in while we waited in the relatives' room. It felt like the longest wait of my life."
Brain aneurysms are more common than most people realize, affecting approximately one in every 30 individuals in the UK. While many of these aneurysms remain small and asymptomatic, larger ones can produce noticeable symptoms like severe headaches, vision changes, and dizziness. If an aneurysm bursts, it can lead to a subarachnoid hemorrhage, characterized by an intense headache often described as a 'thunderclap headache.'
Vicki was left reeling from the loss of her daughter, who had no prior significant health issues. "Never in a million years did I think [Chloe] would go before me," she lamented. She had to deliver the heartbreaking news to Nancy, which shattered the little girl’s world. "It broke my heart. I had to tell her she was never going to see her mummy again, which broke her little heart. Chloe was only 24."
Chloe's untimely death has left a profound emptiness in Vicki's life. "Life without her is not the same. It’s way too quiet and I miss her voice," she shared. She described Chloe as having a "heart of gold" and being adored by everyone who knew her. Even though Chloe is gone, her spirit lives on through her daughter, who resembles her mother greatly.
