During a training ride in Valencia, Spain, Pogačar politely asked a fan to wait for a couple of minutes before signing an autograph, as he was in the middle of a conversation. However, this simple request was met with an unexpected reaction. The fan's partner became enraged, shouting at Pogačar and even resorting to an offensive hand gesture.
But here's where it gets controversial... Pogačar, in a candid Strava post, questioned the behavior of some fans, asking if it was reasonable to expect a brief wait for an autograph or a photo. He expressed his frustration at the fan's reaction, stating that he had lost a fan due to this incident. And this is the part most people miss: Pogačar's post also highlighted the importance of mutual respect between athletes and fans, suggesting that while he welcomes all fans, he expects a certain level of maturity and understanding.
This incident follows a similar theme from last year's Tour de France, where Pogačar, being the main attraction, wore a jersey with 'Do not disturb' and 'No photography' messages during a training ride.
