A hat-trick hero emerges! Jorgen Strand Larsen's stunning performance led Wolves to a dominant 6-1 victory over Shrewsbury in the FA Cup, securing their place in the fourth round.
In a season filled with challenges for the Premier League strugglers, this match offered a much-needed boost. Wolves, despite their league woes, showcased their class against a League Two side fighting for survival.
Strand Larsen, breaking a 12-game goal drought, opened the scoring, quickly followed by Jhon Arias' strike. The visitors from the fourth tier managed to pull one back through John Marquis' penalty, but a sloppy mistake by Elyh Harrison gifted Larsen an easy goal, putting Wolves back in control.
But here's where it gets interesting... Larsen, linked with a January transfer, bagged his first hat-trick for the club in the second half. Rodrigo Gomes and Tolu Arokodare added their names to the scoresheet, extending Wolves' unbeaten run to four matches.
The hosts dominated from the start, with Santiago Bueno's through ball setting up Larsen's opener. Arias then doubled the lead, finishing off a Larsen assist.
Despite a comfortable lead, Wolves conceded a penalty, with Arias bringing down Marquis. However, they quickly regained their two-goal advantage thanks to Harrison's poor clearance, which led to Larsen's second.
Shrewsbury came close to a second goal, but Hugo Bueno cleared Sam Clucas' strike off the line. Wolves then struck again, with Arias and Hwang combining to set up Larsen for his third.
Mateus Mane, a recent standout, made an impact off the bench, providing an assist for Larsen's header, which was brilliantly saved. Wolves showed no mercy, with Arokodare and Gomes adding late goals to seal the win.
Rob Edwards, the Wolves boss, was pleased: "It was a great day for the fans, and we're starting to find our rhythm. I want to keep the momentum going and see this team improve."
And this is the part most people miss... Wolves' performance showcases their potential, and with players like Larsen and Mane stepping up, they could be a force to reckon with.
